Azerbaijan Amends IDP Status Rules for Men Married to Displaced Women

Baku:Men married to women from occupied districts in Azerbaijan will now be eligible for internally displaced person (IDP) status if they meet certain conditions. This change comes as part of an amendment to the existing rules for granting IDP status and issuing identification cards for such individuals.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons introduced the amendment. It specifies that men who were married to residents of occupied districts before the onset of internal displacement, and who registered at their wives' places of residence after the occupation without deregistering their passports from their original districts, will now be granted IDP status.

Previously, the policy only applied to women married to residents of occupied districts under similar circumstances. These women could obtain IDP status if they registered at their husbands' places of residence after the displacement. The recent amendment extends these provisions to include men, thereby addressing a gap in the previous regulations.
