Azerbaijan and China Energy International Group to Form Working Group on Renewable Energy


BEIJING: Azerbaijan and China Energy International Group are set to establish a working group aimed at advancing their cooperation in the renewable energy sector, according to Azerbaijan’s energy minister, Parviz Shahbazov. Shahbazov announced the development on X, formerly known as Twitter, following a meeting in Beijing with Lin Xiadon, Vice President of China Energy International Group Co., Ltd.

According to Trend News Agency, the meeting covered a range of topics including the acceleration of a 160 MW power plant project, China’s involvement in offshore wind energy projects, and the development of green energy corridors. The discussions also included the local production of renewable energy installations and the potential establishment of a joint research and development center. The parties agreed to form a working group and considered signing a Memorandum of Understanding to define their cooperation priorities.

Azerbaijan is currently in discussions with various Chinese companies to explore opportuniti
es in renewable energy, focusing on energy-saving systems, grid enhancement, and the export of green energy. The country is also interested in offshore wind energy and the supply of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cables. These efforts are part of Azerbaijan’s broader strategy to adopt the latest practices in renewable energy.

Chinese companies have shown interest in participating in large-scale activities to harness the renewable energy potential in Azerbaijan. They are evaluating investment opportunities for constructing renewable energy plants in the region, reflecting a mutual interest in deepening bilateral cooperation in this field.
