Azerbaijan and ECO Clean Energy Center Finalize Host Country Agreement

Baku: The Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Clean Energy Center of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) have formalized a Host Country Agreement, as reported by AZERTAC. The agreement was signed by Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov, and the Executive Director of ECO Clean Energy Center, Aysel Yagubova.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the agreement outlines the legal status, privileges, and responsibilities of the Clean Energy Center, as well as the regulatory framework governing its relationship with Azerbaijan. This framework is intended to ensure the effective execution of the Center’s functions and tasks.

The Clean Energy Center serves as a crucial platform for advancing sustainable energy initiatives, energy transition, and energy efficiency projects both nationally and regionally. Its activities are expected to enhance opportunities for green energy projects within Azerbaijan and bolster the country’s participation in regional energy initiatives, including establishing connections with Central Asia.

The decision to establish the Clean Energy Center in Baku underscores Azerbaijan’s dedication to embracing clean and green energy within the ECO framework and highlights its role in fostering regional cooperation in this sector. The Charter of the ECO Clean Energy Center was adopted, and Azerbaijan was chosen as the host country, during the 25th meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Economic Cooperation Organization, held in Ashgabat on 27 November 2021.
