Tbilisi: Georgian Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Tamar Ioseliani and the General Director of JSC Georgian Railways, Lasha Abashidze, held a meeting with Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways Rovshan Rustamov to discuss railway cooperation, 1TV.ge reported.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the meeting focused on enhancing cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan in railway transportation. The discussions emphasized increasing the competitiveness of the Middle Corridor and attracting additional cargo flows.
The meeting highlighted the official launch of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and the new opportunities it presents for increasing cargo turnover. Georgian Railways will have exclusive rights to manage freight transportation on the Marabda-Kartsakhi railway section. This agreement is seen as significant for both national railway infrastructure and regional economic cooperation. It is expected to enhance competitiveness and strengthen Georgia's transit and logistics potential.
Following the discussions, Lasha Abashidze, along with General Directors Levan Kankava and Mikael Abasov of BTKI Railways LLC, signed an agreement confirming Georgian Railways' exclusive rights on the specified section, as stated by the ministry.
