Tehran: Azerbaijan and Iran have successfully approved operational modes for the distribution of the Araz River's water resources. The 55th meeting of the Permanent Joint Commission between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran was held in Iran to address the utilization of the river's water and energy resources. Co-chairing the meeting were Zakir Guliyev from Azerbaijan and Fariba Avarideh from Iran, who represent their respective countries in managing transboundary river resources.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the meeting included key representatives from Azerbaijan's Regional Water Amelioration and Water Management Service, the State Control Service for Water Use and Protection, and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, along with "Azerenergy" OJSC. The assembly finalized working procedures for the equitable distribution of the Araz River's water resources between the two nations.

Discussions at the event encompassed various topics such as water monitoring, quality control, and the installation of new water metering devices. The dialogue concluded with the signing of a protocol, cementing the commitment of both countries to continue their cooperative efforts in managing the river's resources effectively.
