Azerbaijan and Iran Strengthen Ties for North-South Corridor Development

Baku: Close cooperation is being carried out with the Islamic Republic of Iran for the development of the “North-South” corridor, Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan, Rashad Nabiyev, said at the 83rd meeting of the Railway Transport Council of the CIS member states.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, R. Nabiyev noted that earlier this year, a strategic cooperation plan was signed between “Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC and Iranian Railways regarding the construction and operation of the Astara terminal. The document aims to expand cooperation to realize the potential of the “North-South” corridor.

R. Nabiyev added that work on the construction of the Astara terminal located in Iran has made significant progress. This facility has been transferred to the Azerbaijani side for long-term use spanning 25 years. The construction of the terminal is planned to be completed by the end of 2026.
