Astana: As Astana gears up for an official visit from Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, discussions have centered around the robust strategic and allied partnership between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. During an exclusive interview with Kazinform News Agency, President Aliyev emphasized the significance of the bilateral cooperation that has been built over decades, focusing on trade, energy, culture, and cooperation within the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev highlighted the strength and mutual trust characterizing the political relations between the two nations, underpinned by shared cultural and spiritual values. This upcoming visit marks President Aliyev’s seventh trip to Kazakhstan in three years, reflecting the dynamic development of the bilateral relationship. The exchange of visits between the two countries’ leaders underscores a commitment to deepening strategic ties and addressing pressing issues collaboratively.
The President expressed gratitude for Kazakhstan’s contributions, such as the Kurmangazy Children’s Creativity Center in Fuzuli, which serves as a cultural and educational hub. The solid contractual framework, marked by about 170 documents, supports cooperation in various sectors, with the Treaty on Strategic Partnership and Allied Relations being a cornerstone of this relationship.
Economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan has seen significant growth, with trade turnover reaching $547 million from January to August 2025, a threefold increase over the previous year. Investment links are also strengthening, with Azerbaijani investments in Kazakhstan at $225 million and Kazakh investments in Azerbaijan totaling $136 million. These figures demonstrate a mutual interest in sustainable development and long-term partnership.
In the transport and logistics sectors, the Middle Corridor is a vital component of the cooperation strategy, facilitating increased freight transport. Key projects, such as the construction of fiber-optic communication lines across the Caspian Sea and agreements on Kazakh oil transit, highlight the strategic focus on infrastructure and energy collaboration. Efforts to modernize ports and enhance green energy initiatives further reinforce the bilateral commitment to economic integration and environmental sustainability.
The Organization of Turkic States (OTS) plays a pivotal role in fostering ties between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, providing a platform for political dialogue and economic cooperation.
