Baku: Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov met with the visiting Minister of Economy of Oman, Said bin Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Saqri, to explore potential areas of energy cooperation between the two countries. The meeting focused on strengthening ties in the energy sector, with discussions covering a range of topics from traditional oil and gas to renewable energy initiatives.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Minister Shahbazov provided insights into Azerbaijan’s extensive experience in oil production and its role as a critical player in global energy security through natural gas supply. He also highlighted recent projects in renewable energy production and export. The dialogue included considerations on the electricity, fiber-optic, and hydrogen components of the Caspian-Black Sea-European Green Energy Corridor, alongside potential advancements in data centers and their power supply.

A key point of the discussions was the importance of sustainable investments in Oman’s oil and gas sector, which remains a critical area for both Oman and the international community. The Omani delegation shared their ongoing efforts in liquefied natural gas production and their ambition to become a prominent LNG exporter in the region.

Minister Al Saqri emphasized Oman’s commitment to renewable energy, citing the operation of four large solar industrial parks and a strategic target to source 40% of the country’s energy needs from renewables by 2040. Oman is also aiming to produce 1 million tons of green hydrogen by 2030, aligning with global sustainability goals.

The ministers concluded their meeting with an agreement to outline specific cooperation areas as per the documents signed between the two nations in the oil and gas domain. They also agreed to explore collaborative opportunities in solar panel and wind turbine production, aiming to bolster the entire energy sector.
