Gusar: The 29th meeting of the Azerbaijan-Russia Joint Commission on the Allocation of Water Resources of the Samur Transboundary River took place in Azerbaijan's Gusar district.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, this commission functions under an agreement between the Azerbaijani and Russian governments focusing on the efficient use and protection of the Samur River's water resources. The meeting was led by Zakir Guliyev, the Azerbaijani Co-Chair and Chairman of the Board of the Regional Water Reclamation Service under the State Water Resources Agency of Azerbaijan (SWRA), alongside Vadim Nikonorov, the Russian Co-Chair and Deputy Head of the Federal Agency for Water Resources of the Russian Federation.
The gathering included representatives from the Regional Water Reclamation Service, various Azerbaijani state agencies, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, the State Service on Property Issues, and the State Border Service. Discussions covered the allocation of the Samur River's water resources, monitoring of those resources, the joint operation of the Samur Hydro-Engineering Complex, and other bilateral cooperation matters.
The meeting concluded with the identification of follow-up measures and the signing of the final protocol, signaling continued collaboration between Azerbaijan and Russia on this critical transboundary water issue.
