Azerbaijan and Serbia Enhance Strategic Partnership during Political Consultations in Belgrade


BELGRADE: Another round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Serbia was held on October 15 in Belgrade, aiming to strengthen strategic ties and explore new cooperation avenues.

According to Trend News Agency, the Azerbaijani delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Fariz Rzayev, while the Serbian side was headed by State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Damjan Jovic. The discussions focused on enhancing the strategic partnership between the two nations, with an emphasis on political, economic, energy, and humanitarian sectors. Key strategic initiatives, particularly in energy and transport led by Azerbaijan, were reviewed for future opportunities.

Both parties highlighted the upcoming 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), scheduled to occur in Azerbaijan this November. This event is seen as a pivotal moment to further solidify the cooperation between Azerbaijan and Serbia. Th
e significance of inter-parliamentary ties was also underscored, noting the benefits of reciprocal visits and deepening both bilateral and multilateral relations.

The consultations also provided a platform for Azerbaijan to brief Serbian officials on the post-conflict situation in the region, including efforts towards peace, mine clearance in liberated areas, and reconstruction projects. Additionally, the meeting addressed regional and international issues of mutual interest.

During his visit, Rzayev also met with other Serbian officials and participated in roundtable discussions with local researchers and experts, as stated by the Azerbaijani ministry.
