Baku: An online meeting was held between specialists from the Azerbaijan Energy Regulatory Agency (AERA) and the Energy Market Regulatory Authority of Trkiye (EMRA) within the framework of the 2025-2026 Inter-Forum Action Plan of the 'Regulations' Working Group under the Azerbaijan-Trkiye IV Energy Forum, focusing on the exchange of experience.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the meeting was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency, Azerenergy OJSC, and Azerishig OJSC. Co-chairs of the working group, Elmar Gulaliyev from AERA and Mustafa Yavuzdemir from EMRA, welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of such meetings for exchanging experiences, noting that several events are planned for this year under the Action Plan.
During the event, G¶zde Isler, an energy expert from EMRA, delivered a presentation titled 'Trkiye's Experience in the Liberalization of the Electricity Market.' She detailed the steps Trkiye has taken toward liberalizing its electricity market, covering the development of regulatory frameworks, establishment of regulatory mechanisms, promotion of competition through unbundling and market model formation, and approaches to ensure consumer rights protection.
The meeting concluded with a question-and-answer session, followed by an exchange of views on issues of mutual interest. The 2025-2026 Inter-Forum Action Plan of the 'Regulations' Working Group includes organizing meetings to implement educational measures for market participants, as outlined in the 'Action Plan for the Phased Implementation of Electricity Market Elements,' approved by the Order of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan on May 18, 2024.
