Azerbaijan and UAE Strengthen Ties with Landmark Agreements in Shusha

Baku: President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates met in Shusha to further cement the ties between their nations.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the leaders engaged in an expanded meeting to discuss and enhance bilateral relations, especially in areas like renewable energy, economic cooperation, and cultural exchange.

During the meeting, President Aliyev emphasized the importance of the UAE’s support in the development of Azerbaijan’s renewable energy sector, highlighting the UAE companies’ role as strategic partners and main investors. He expressed gratitude for the UAE’s support in the construction of Azerbaijan’s first solar power plant and outlined plans for broader renewable energy production with UAE assistance.

President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan expressed his delight in visiting Azerbaijan and acknowledged the fruitful discussions held in previous meetings. He reiterated the UAE’s commitment to expanding cooperation in various sectors, including development, economy, food security, and culture. The UAE leader also highlighted the significance of the recently signed Agreement on Comprehensive Economic Cooperation, which aims to boost economic ties, especially in the non-oil sector.

The meeting concluded with a ceremony to exchange numerous documents between Azerbaijan and the UAE. These agreements included the Joint Declaration on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, cooperation in energy and transport, and the establishment of the UAE-Azerbaijan Joint Business Council. The signed documents were exchanged by Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov and the UAE’s Minister of State Saeed Al Hajeri.

The leaders also discussed the importance of cultural exchange and the UAE’s interest in supporting peace and security in the Caucasus region. The UAE expressed readiness to assist in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia for the benefit of regional stability.

This meeting marks a significant step in reinforcing the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the UAE, promising further collaboration and mutual development opportunities.
