Baku: Azerbaijan's Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov, held a meeting with Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, the Chief Executive Officer of Masdar, to discuss the progress of renewable energy projects in Azerbaijan. The discussions focused on accelerating the commissioning of the Bilasuvar Solar Power Plant (SPP) by the end of the year.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Minister Shahbazov praised the ongoing partnership with Masdar, highlighting the collaboration in solar and wind energy sectors. The meeting reviewed the status of solar projects with a combined capacity of 760 MW in Bilasuvar and Neftchala, along with wind projects exceeding 200 MW in the Absheron and Garadagh districts. The cooperation between the government and Masdar was commended for its effectiveness in advancing these projects.
Both parties committed to expediting efforts to ensure the 445 MW Bilasuvar SPP becomes operational by year-end. Discussions also covered Azerbaijan's initiatives to enhance regional energy connectivity, with particular emphasis on the Southern Gas Corridor project's contribution to Europe's energy security.
The meeting further explored potential new interconnector projects aimed at exporting electricity, including green energy, to Europe. The significance of Masdar's projects in Azerbaijan was underscored, with both sides expressing a desire to expand their collaboration in the future.
