Azerbaijan and UK Explore Satellite Technologies for Water Resource Monitoring

Baku: Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom have engaged in discussions regarding the potential application of satellite technologies to monitor water resources. Azercosmos, Azerbaijan's space agency, participated in a roundtable event titled 'Water Security in Azerbaijan: Regulation, Risk, and Responsible Business Action', organized by the British Chamber of Commerce Azerbaijan.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the event gathered representatives from key public institutions, international organizations, and the private sector to deliberate on regulatory advancements, risk management, and the significance of responsible business practices in enhancing Azerbaijan's water security. Ismat Bakhishov, Director of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Center of Azercosmos, highlighted the benefits of satellite technologies in monitoring water resources and evaluating climate processes.

Bakhishov introduced the platform www.climatereport.az, developed by Azercosmos to systematize data at a national level. He explained that the platform offers satellite indicators through interactive maps, graphs, and analytical panels, creating a unified analytical environment for government agencies and specialists. This setup supports spatial assessment of risks such as diminishing water resources, drought, and desertification.

The event served as a forum for open dialogue among government bodies, business representatives, and experts, focusing on cooperation opportunities for responsible development and sustainable resource management.
