Azerbaijan and UNOG Discuss Enhanced Cooperation and Regional Issues

Baku: On March 13, Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan's Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), who is visiting the country to participate in the 13th Global Baku Forum. The meeting focused on various aspects of Azerbaijan-UNOG cooperation and regional issues.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the sides hailed cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNOG, supporting UNOG's efforts on sustainable development goals, climate change, economic development, and other relevant areas. Minister Jeyhun Bayramov highlighted Azerbaijan's active role within the UN framework, its involvement in COP29 and subsequent COPs, and noted that this year the country will host the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum, as well as the Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia. He noted that Azerbaijan will assume the chairmanship of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) starting next year.

The Foreign Minister recalled with pleasure Tatiana Valovaya's previous visits to the country and the top-level and high-level meetings held during those visits. He expressed his gratitude for the conditions created to strengthen cooperation between Azerbaijan's Permanent Mission in Geneva, as well as other national institutions, and UNOG.

During the meeting, the Director-General was also informed about the situation in the region and the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process. Furthermore, the parties exchanged views on the military escalation in the Middle East.
