Baku: The Department of Astrophysics of Baku State University (BSU) has announced the dates and times when the seasons will begin in Azerbaijan in 2026.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the spring season in Azerbaijan will commence on March 20 at 18:45:53 Baku time. At this precise moment, day and night will be equal, with the Sun rising exactly in the east and setting in the west. The Sun will cross the celestial equator, shifting from the Southern Hemisphere to the Northern Hemisphere, marking the start of spring in the Northern Hemisphere and autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. The spring season will last for 92 days, 17 hours, 38 minutes, and 28 seconds.
The summer season, signified by the Summer Solstice, will begin on June 21 at 12:24:26 Baku time. This marks the start of astronomical summer in the Northern Hemisphere and winter in the Southern Hemisphere. On this day, the Sun will reach its highest point in the sky in Baku, with a maximum altitude of 73.1° at noon. It will be the day with the longest daylight duration of 15 hours, 03 minutes, and 24 seconds, while the night will last 8 hours, 56 minutes, and 36 seconds. The summer season will extend for 93 days, 15 hours, 40 minutes, and 42 seconds.
The autumn season will commence on September 23 at 04:05:08 Baku time. At this juncture, day and night will once again become equal, with the Sun rising and setting directly in the east and west, respectively. The Sun will cross the celestial equator from the Northern Hemisphere to the Southern Hemisphere, marking the beginning of autumn in the Northern Hemisphere and spring in the Southern Hemisphere. The autumn season will last for 89 days, 21 hours, 45 minutes, and 01 second.
Winter will begin in Azerbaijan on December 22 at 00:50:09 Baku time. This will signal the start of winter in the Northern Hemisphere and summer in the Southern Hemisphere. The Earth’s axis will form the largest angle with the direction of the Sun, resulting in the Sun reaching its lowest noontime altitude above the horizon at 26.2°. This day will have the shortest daylight duration of 9 hours, 17 minutes, and 22 seconds, and the longest night lasting 14 hours, 42 minutes, and 38 seconds. The winter season will continue for 88 days, 23 hours, 34 minutes, and 27 seconds.
