Azerbaijan Army Honors 34th Anniversary of Khojaly Genocide

Baku: A series of commemorative events were held by the Azerbaijan Army to mark the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide. These events took place across various military establishments, including the Combined Arms Army, army corps, formations, and military units, as well as in special educational institutions under the National Defense University. Additionally, commemorations were observed at the offices of military attach© representations accredited in foreign countries, as communicated by the Ministry of Defense to AZERTAC.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the events began with tributes to National Leader Heydar Aliyev, the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan, and the victims of the Khojaly genocide. The National Anthem was performed by a military band. It was noted that after Heydar Aliyev returned to power, significant steps were taken to ensure the tragedy received proper legal recognition. The Milli Majlis officially designated February 26 as the Day of the Khojaly Genocide on February 24, 1994.

Efforts by the President of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation to raise international awareness about the Khojaly tragedy were emphasized during the events. As part of the commemorations, a minute of silence was observed at 17:00 in memory of the victims. Participants visited genocide monuments, attended lectures during socio-political training sessions, and engaged with photo exhibitions, literary compositions, and film presentations.
