Baku: Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev revealed during a Security Council meeting that Azerbaijan assisted in the evacuation of Iranian diplomats from Lebanon, only to face an unexpected strike on Nakhchivan by Iran.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev disclosed that the deputy foreign minister of Iran reached out to Baku, requesting assistance for the evacuation of Iranian embassy staff stranded in Lebanon. Responding promptly, President Aliyev ordered the deployment of an Azerbaijani plane to aid in the evacuation. Despite Iran offering to cover the costs, President Aliyev insisted on providing assistance free of charge, emphasizing solidarity during difficult times.
The Azerbaijani leader expressed his dismay over the subsequent Iranian strike on Nakhchivan, describing it as a "cowardly, and shameless" act. He vowed that Azerbaijan would address the issue through diplomatic channels to ensure accountability and prevent further escalations.
