Azerbaijan Bids for Vice-Presidency at IRENA Assembly’s 17th Session

Abu dhabi: Azerbaijan has officially submitted its candidacy for one of the vice-presidential roles at the 17th session of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly. This announcement was made during the 16th Assembly, which took place in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, where nominations for the presidency and vice-presidential positions were put forward.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the nomination process adhered to the principles of geographical representation and rotation. The Republic of Korea was approved as the candidate for the presidency of the 17th Assembly session, representing the Asia and Pacific regional group.

The vice-presidential candidacies are drawn from the remaining four regional groups, with Azerbaijan representing the Europe and Others group. Additionally, the Comoros has been nominated from the African regional group, the Kingdom of Tonga from the Asia and Pacific regional group, and Grenada from the Latin America and Caribbean regional group. The 17th session of the IRENA Assembly is scheduled to take place in 2027.
