Baku: Today, Azerbaijan's educational institutions are marking the Day of Knowledge, APA reports. September 15 signifies the commencement of the new academic year, with students returning to general education institutions across the nation. According to Azeri-Press News Agency, a total of 2.2 million people will be pursuing their studies in Azerbaijan during the 2026-2027 academic year. Of these, over 1.7 million are enrolled in general education institutions. This academic year also sees the opening of new educational facilities in territories recently liberated from occupation, with 15 schools slated for operation. In Baku, more than 500,000 students are expected to attend school under the jurisdiction of the Baku City Education Department. Reports indicate that over 504,000 students will be studying in the capital's general education institutions, with more than 39,000 of these being first-grade students. The first lesson of the academic year will focus on the theme "Year of Urban Planning and Architect ure." As the first bell rings, thousands of children will experience their introduction to school life.
