Baku—The Azerbaijan Cement Producers Association (ASIA) held its third workshop last month under the Net Zero Accelerator initiative, focusing on the comprehensive strategies required to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 in the cement and concrete sector.

According to Trend News Agency, the two-day workshop involved detailed discussions on the 'Net Zero Roadmap' final report. Participants included representatives from Azerbaijan's concrete industry, construction companies, government bodies, and non-governmental organizations. "The discussion of the final report of the 'Net Zero Roadmap' included strategies for reducing carbon emissions across the entire value chain in the cement and concrete sector," noted a spokesperson from the association.

Key topics addressed during the workshop included the reduction of the clinker factor—a significant source of carbon emissions in cement production—along with the development of alternative fuels, the implementation of efficient construction design, and carbon capture techniques. Discussions also extended to relevant legislation and regulations impacting carbon emissions.

The workshop aimed to finalize and approve the roadmap, which will provide Azerbaijan’s cement and concrete industry with a clear strategy to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. The involvement of the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA) and the European Cement Research Academy (ECRA) was highlighted as crucial, ensuring the roadmap aligns with both global industry standards and state policy.

The final report of the 'Net Zero Roadmap' is expected to be presented publicly at the upcoming Conference of the Parties (COP29), marking a significant step in the industry's commitment to environmental sustainability.
