Baku:Azerbaijan is actively engaged in the creation of a strategic roadmap for artificial intelligence, as highlighted by Shaikha Al Nowais, Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization. This announcement was made during a special joint session of the 3rd High-Level Meeting of International Organizations and the 6th Ministerial Meeting as part of the Baku Process.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, the Secretary-General noted Azerbaijan's role among the countries contributing to a strategic roadmap that aligns with governmental needs and readiness for AI application. The initiative underscores the necessity for technologies to foster cultural connections rather than evolve independently, advocating for diverse stakeholder involvement to guide this progress.
The Riyadh Declaration, which was adopted by the organization's member states in 2025, asserts that technologies should benefit people, emphasizing investments in skill development, infrastructure, and responsible governance as key components. The importance of evaluating AI not just by technological advancement but by its impact on people's lives was also stressed.
The organization is committed to enhancing access to training for workers and small business representatives, alongside assisting African nations in crafting their own technological solutions. Furthermore, the significance of maintaining local communities' control over the representation of their cultures and histories through AI was highlighted, with human rights, privacy, and community well-being identified as top priorities.
Shaikha Al Nowais called for the presentation of not only the outcomes of discussions but also the tangible achievements at the forthcoming meeting in two years.
