Azerbaijan Commemorates Fourth Anniversary of Zangilan’s Liberation from Armenian Forces

BAKU: Azerbaijan is commemorating the fourth anniversary of the liberation of Zangilan, a city that was under Armenian occupation, Trend reports. This milestone marks a significant event in the country’s recent history, occurring after a counter-offensive by the Azerbaijani Army that began on September 27, 2020.

According to Trend News Agency, President Ilham Aliyev played a pivotal role in informing the nation of the military advances. On October 20, 2020, he announced the liberation of Zangilan and several other strategic locations. During his address, President Aliyev detailed the recapture of various villages across different districts, including Dordchinar, Kurdlar, Yukhari Abdurrahmanli, and others, highlighting the Azerbaijani Army’s progress in reclaiming territories.

The President’s announcement named a series of villages in the Fuzuli, Jabrayil, and Khojavand districts that had also been liberated. These included Safarsha, Fughanli, Imambaghi, Dash Veysalli, Aghtapa, Yarahmadli, Agjakend, Mulkuder
e, Dashbashi, Gunashli, and Vang, the latter of which the President renamed Chinarli. This was part of a broader strategy to regain control over lands that had been occupied.

Additionally, President Aliyev confirmed the Azerbaijani Army’s entry into the Zangilan district, leading to the liberation of key settlements such as Khavali, Zarnali, Mammadbayli, Hakari, Sharifan, Mughanli, and the city of Zangilan itself. This victory was celebrated with the establishment of a dedicated medal, “For the Liberation of Zangilan,” to honor those who contributed to the military efforts.

Furthermore, President Aliyev issued an order to commemorate the liberation of cities from Armenian occupation, designating specific days for these celebrations. Zangilan City Day is now observed annually on October 20 to honor the city’s liberation.
