Azerbaijan Commits to Advancing Peace Agreement Process with Armenia, Cites Concerns Over Delays


Baku: President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan affirmed the nation’s commitment to advancing the peace agreement process with Armenia, expressing concerns over delays in receiving Armenia’s latest proposals. During a meeting with Michael Carpenter, Special Assistant to the U.S. President and Senior Director for Europe at the National Security Council, Aliyev highlighted Azerbaijan’s role as the initiator of the peace talks and its dedication to the regional peace agenda.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev noted that despite being the initiator of the peace agreement and its five core principles, there have been setbacks attributed to Armenia’s slow response. Armenia took 70 days to send its latest proposals on the text of the peace agreement, which Aliyev pointed out raises concerns about Armenia’s intentions to earnestly advance the process.

The President also emphasized that Armenia’s territorial claims against Azerbaijan, which are based on constitutional grounds, pose a significant hurdl
e in finalizing the peace agreement. He reiterated Azerbaijan’s resolve to take decisive steps to overcome these challenges and push forward with the peace process, underscoring the importance of resolving these issues for regional stability.
