Azerbaijan Completes Construction of Key Substation in Jabrayil for Solar Power Integration

Jabrayil: Azerbaijan has successfully completed construction work on a new 330 kV substation in the Jabrayil district, marking a significant advancement in the country’s renewable energy initiatives. This development is part of Azerbaijan’s efforts to integrate the 240-megawatt ‘Shafag’ Solar Power Plant, an industrial-scale project being constructed by BP, into the national energy grid.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the substation is a result of a cooperation agreement between BP and AzerEnergy. Alongside the substation, a 7.5-kilometer double-circuit 330-kilovolt high-voltage transmission line has been established. This infrastructure is crucial for connecting the ‘Shafag’ Solar Power Plant to Azerbaijan’s energy system.

The projects aim to foster public-private partnerships, reduce carbon emissions, conserve natural gas, and enhance the contribution of renewable energy sources. These efforts are expected to play a vital role in Azerbaijan’s transition to ‘green energy’ and bolster the nation’s energy security. Energy generated at the solar plant will be transmitted through the ‘Virtual Power Transfer Mechanism’ to the 330 kV ‘Jabrayil’ Energy Hub, eventually reaching the energy system and supplying the Sangachal terminal.

With the completion of the ‘Jabrayil’ substation, the groundwork is set for the ‘Shafag’ Solar Power Plant to commence operations. Once operational, it will facilitate the flow of ‘green energy’ into the national grid, marking a significant step forward for Azerbaijan’s renewable energy sector.
