BAKU: Azerbaijan has successfully completed a comprehensive upgrade of a 26-kilometer segment of the Alat-Astara-Iran highway, enhancing connectivity with Iran.

According to Trend News Agency, the renovation focused on the 217-243 kilometer portion of the highway that leads to the border with Iran. The project upgraded the road to the third technical category, broadening the highway to a width of 12 meters. The extensive work included excavation, drilling, and widening of the road to meet normative standards. Additionally, the foundation was reconstructed, and new asphalt concrete pavement was laid.

Further improvements encompassed the construction of drainage systems, including pipes and ditches. The existing bridges crossing the Pensarchai, Archivanchai, and Astarachai rivers also underwent significant refurbishment. According to the sources, all construction activities adhered to the stringent “Construction Norms and Rules,” were completed on schedule, and maintained high-quality standards.

The project
culminated with the installation of bus stops, road signs, and horizontal marking lines, ensuring the road meets modern standards and is ready for public use. This upgrade is expected to significantly enhance the comfort and safety of movement for both passengers and freight along this critical transport corridor.
