Azerbaijan Debuts at International Biennale of Glass with ‘Darvish’ Carpet in Sofia

Sofia: For the first time, Azerbaijan participated at the fifth International Biennale of Glass (IBG) in Sofia, which brought together over 200 glass artists from 50 countries. Mahar Maharramov, a glass artist and a lecturer at the Faculty of Arts of Garabagh University, represented Azerbaijan at the prestigious exhibition with his unique glass carpet titled 'Darvish.'

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Professor Konstantin Valchev, IBG Art Director, noted this event as one of the most prestigious gatherings in the field of glass art worldwide, with a history dating back to 2017. He highlighted Azerbaijan's inclusion in the lineup as an important step for international cultural exchange.

Among the exhibition's other highlights were works by Czech pioneer of optical glass and conceptual sculpture V¡clav Cigler, a blown glass piece by renowned American artist Dale Chihuly, a mythologically symbolic appliqu© vase by Murano master Lucio Bubacco, and a spatial-analytical installation by Dutch artist-architect Han de Kluijver.

Hosted at the 'Square 500' building of the National Gallery in Sofia, this prestigious exhibition will run until November 30 and is set to mark a new chapter in the history of contemporary Azerbaijani glass art.
