Azerbaijan Designates September 20 as Day for Four Liberated Cities

BAKU—Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev has officially declared September 20 as the day to commemorate the cities of Khankendi, Khojaly, Khojavand, and Aghdara, following their liberation. This new national day aims to recognize the significance of these areas reclaimed from occupation.

According to Trend News Agency, the decree modifies an earlier one concerning the establishment of city days across the newly liberated territories of Azerbaijan. The President’s office confirmed that the selected date, September 20, will now serve as a symbol of remembrance and renewal for the cities of Khankendi, Khojaly, Khojavand, and Aghdara.

The Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the President’s special representations, has been tasked to handle the necessary arrangements to honor this day effectively. Responsibilities include organizing commemorative events and ensuring that the significance of this day is fully recognized across the national calendar.

The Cabinet of Ministers has also been directed to resolve any administrative and logistical issues that might arise from the implementation of this decree, ensuring that the new city day is integrated smoothly into the nation’s official observances.
