Baku: Azerbaijan's State Security Service has apprehended four citizens who participated in the military operations between Russia and Ukraine. This development is part of the ongoing efforts by the State Security Service to address the involvement of Azerbaijani nationals in foreign conflicts. According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the State Security Service has been actively conducting operational-investigative measures to identify and legally prosecute Azerbaijani nationals engaged in military actions abroad, which contravenes the nation's legislation. Reports reveal that numerous Azerbaijani nationals have been killed, gone missing, or sustained injuries, while some are currently held captive due to their involvement in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Investigations have identified four individuals-Nabiyev Real Eldaniz oglu, born in 1991; Huseynov Faris Famil oglu, born in 1993; Mammadov Ali Elnur oglu, born in 1994; and Mirhashimli Murov Hasan oglu, born in 1994-who participated in combat operations under the control of armed forces from both Russia and Ukraine. These individuals were detained and faced criminal charges in January 2026, with a court decision resulting in their arrest. The State Security Service reiterates that participation in such armed conflicts incurs criminal liability under Azerbaijani law. The enforcement of legal accountability for those committing related acts in foreign territories will continue as per the Republic of Azerbaijan's legislation.
