Azerbaijan Detains Two Iranians for Attempted Drug Smuggling from Iran


Baku: Individuals attempting to smuggle a large amount of drugs into Azerbaijan were detained, APA reports, citing State Border Service. Measures continue to ensure reliable protection of the state border and to combat smuggling, illegal circulation of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and their precursors.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, on March 9, during service in the area of the ‘Goytapa’ border detachment of the State Border Troops Command, the border patrol observed two unidentified individuals crossing the state border from Iran to the Republic of Azerbaijan.



As a result of the border search and operational measures, two Iranian citizens – Javad Mammadreza Mohammad (born in 1999) and Mirzadeh Milad Jalal (born in 2001) were detained while attempting to smuggle a total of 9 kilograms and 69 grams of drugs across the state border (9 kg 60 g of marijuana and 9 g of opium).



Operational and investigative measures are ongoing regarding the fact.
