BAKU – In a significant meeting aimed at bolstering energy sector cooperation, Azerbaijani Deputy Energy Minister Orkhan Zeynalov engaged with Elisabetta Falcetti, the Executive Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for Turkey and the Caucasus.
According to Trend News Agency, the discussions revolved around the current and future collaborative projects between Azerbaijan and the EBRD, particularly focusing on renewable energy, energy efficiency, and the transition to low-carbon energy sources. Both parties expressed satisfaction with their ongoing partnerships and explored opportunities to expand their cooperation.
A key point of discussion was the EBRD-supported auction process for the Gobustan solar power plant, which is part of Azerbaijan’s broader efforts to increase its renewable energy capacity. Additionally, the Azerbaijani delegation briefed the EBRD representative on various strategic initiatives, including the development of ‘green’ energy corridors linking the Caspian, Black Sea, and Europe, as well as between Azerbaijan, Central Asia, and Europe.
The meeting also touched on Azerbaijan’s initiatives related to COP29 and planned activities in the energy sector aimed at enhancing the country’s environmental sustainability and energy independence. This dialogue underscores a mutual commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions and strengthening economic ties between Azerbaijan and international financial institutions like the EBRD.
