Azerbaijan, EBRD discuss green energy partnership in Abu Dhabi


Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov has met with Grzegorz Zielinski, Director, Head of Energy Europe for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in Abu Dhabi.

The two discussed the priority areas of cooperation with the Bank in the energy sector. They noted that cooperation with the EBRD on increasing renewable energy potential, improving the network, energy efficiency, low-carbon economy and financing of Garadagh SPP contributes to the transition to green energy.

The meeting also focused on the EBRD’s support opportunities for the Energy Efficiency Fund, the implementation of pilot projects in the field of energy efficiency, the current state of cooperation on low-carbon solutions in the energy sector, low-carbon solutions in the electric power sector, as well as the processes related to the holding of the first auction on solar energy that will be launched soon.

The two also exchanged views on Azerbaijan (Nakhchivan)-Trkiye-Europe energy line, the Caspian-Black Sea-Europe
green energy corridor projects, connection of 1 GW solar-wind energy plants to the grid, cooperation issues related to energy system modernization.

During the conversation, the parties also evaluated the latest situation related to drafting law in the relevant field within the Support Project for the activities of the Energy Regulatory Agency, as well as action plans in the field of energy within the framework of COP29.
