Damascus: With the initiative of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the Syrian Arab Republic, the organization of the Local Council of the al-Oteybah town in the Eastern Ghouta region of the Damascus countryside province, and the support of the Azerbaijan International Development Assistance Agency (AIDA), iftar events were held in Syria on March 5 and 7 under the slogan 'Brotherly peoples of Azerbaijan and Syria together in the month of mercy," the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the Syrian Arab Republic told APA.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the events were significant for the region, which suffered heavily in 2018 due to chemical attacks by the Bashar al-Assad regime. These attacks resulted in the loss of 600 civilian lives, including women and children, and left thousands injured.
On March 5, an iftar table was set for 500 fasting individuals in the yard of a school that had been non-operational for many years due to its destruction. This gathering aimed to revive a sense of community and solidarity among the residents.
On March 7, 500 pre-packed iftar sets were distributed. These sets, contained in white polyethylene packages, bore the flags of Azerbaijan and Syria, along with the AIDA logo and the greeting 'Happy Ramadan'. They were first distributed to children who had lost both parents, followed by poor and needy families in the region.
