Azerbaijan Engages in Strategic Energy Discussions at SCO Meeting

Bishkek: Azerbaijan was represented by Deputy Energy Minister Kamal Abbasov at the 6th Meeting of Energy Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), held in the Kyrgyz Republic. During the meeting, key topics including energy security, sustainability, clean energy technologies, and international cooperation were highlighted in the context of global energy system changes.

According to Azeri-Press News agency, Azerbaijan emphasized its commitment to enhancing relations with the SCO as a Dialogue Partner. The country was recognized for its role as a reliable energy partner and an important transit hub, contributing to regional energy connectivity. Azerbaijan's strategic plans include the creation of 8 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032 and the implementation of green energy corridors and interconnector projects.

The 'Central Asia-Azerbaijan Green Energy Corridor' project was underscored for its strategic importance. Azerbaijan expressed support for the Kyrgyz Republic's involvement in this initiative, which aims to strengthen energy connectivity across Central Asia, the South Caucasus, Trkiye, and China. This project is expected to facilitate electricity transmission along the Middle Corridor, linking Europe and Asia.

Additionally, it was affirmed that Azerbaijan is ready to continue fostering constructive dialogue and developing mutually beneficial cooperation within the framework of the SCO platform.
