Baku:Complex genetic examinations of challenging samples are now being successfully conducted, as announced by Rufat Aliyev, Head of the Main Military Medical Department of the State Security Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Major General of the Medical Service. This development was discussed during a panel session at the 4th International Conference held within the framework of the Baku Dialogue on Missing Persons.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, Aliyev highlighted the department's active participation in international scientific conferences and seminars across various countries, including Cyprus, Australia, Türkiye, Switzerland, Romania, the Netherlands, as well as in Azerbaijan itself. This involvement is part of a multidisciplinary approach to genetic research.
Aliyev emphasized the importance of integrating the capabilities of the Genetic Research Center into forensic medical examinations and the justice system. These complex genetic examinations are conducted in accordance with decisions from the Prosecutor General's Office and other law enforcement agencies. The center is also focusing on strengthening cooperation with leading universities and scientific research institutions to address modern medical and biological challenges effectively.
The collaboration extends to large-scale scientific research projects in fundamental and applied fields such as population genetics, epigenetics, pharmacogenetics, molecular genetics, and cytogenetics. Joint research efforts are supported by memorandums of understanding signed between the Main Military Medical Department and renowned scientific and educational institutions. The department is also prepared to share its expertise and support projects aimed at training specialists in genetic examination.
Furthermore, the conference, organized in partnership with the International Commission on Missing Persons, has initiated a new phase in addressing global humanitarian crises and the issue of missing persons. The focus remains on learning from international scientific institutions, exchanging knowledge, and maintaining close cooperation to improve genetic research activities.
