Azerbaijan Enhances State Water Resources Agency’s Role in Water Management

BAKU: President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan has signed a decree to transfer significant responsibilities regarding the country’s water management to the State Water Resources Agency, according to a recent amendment to the “Regulation on the Electronic Water Management Information System (ESTIS)”.

According to Trend News Agency, the newly signed decree outlines that the State Water Resources Agency will undertake the organization, maintenance, and effective use of ESTIS. Previously, these responsibilities were managed by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The decree mandates that the State Water Resources Agency will now regularly input data into the ESTIS and provide annual reports to the Cabinet of Ministers, enhancing transparency and governance in water resource management. By centralizing control under the State Water Resources Agency, the decree aims to streamline operations and i

Furthermore, the Agency is designated as both the owner and the operator of ESTIS, signifying an increase in its authority and responsibilities in the sector.
