BAKU: Streets and avenues in Baku, Azerbaijan, will experience no special traffic restrictions during the upcoming COP29 summit, according to Orkhan Mahmudlu, Department Director at the COP29, Azerbaijan Operational Company. During a media tour of the Baku Olympic Stadium, Mahmudlu detailed the city’s preparation for the significant influx of international visitors and delegates.

According to Trend News Agency, Mahmudlu emphasized that while the main thoroughfares in Baku will remain open, traffic regulation measures will be implemented on several key routes, particularly those connecting the airport to the city and onwards to the stadium. These adjustments are in anticipation of the arrival of world leaders and other dignitaries for the summit, which is scheduled from November 11-13.

“During this period, there may be certain difficulties for other vehicles on the roads, which is why we have developed and presented a traffic regulation plan for the city. This plan will provide alternative routes, and we wil
l keep the public informed about these options,” Mahmudlu stated. The objective is to ensure that the summit, which involves numerous high-level meetings and events, does not disrupt the daily lives of Baku’s residents and visitors unnecessarily.

The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be a significant event, hosting delegates from 198 countries. The COP meetings, which are crucial for discussing global climate policies and strategies, are held annually unless decided otherwise by the parties. The decision to host COP29 in Azerbaijan was made during the plenary meeting of COP28 in Dubai on December 11 last year.
