Azerbaijan Entrusted with Key Missions at COP30

Brasilia: Azerbaijan has been assigned several important missions at COP30, despite Brazil officially holding the presidency of the event. Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and COP29 Lead Negotiator, Yalchin Rafiyev, shared this information with AZERTAC.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Azerbaijan’s trusted position within the COP community and its role as a bridge between the North and South facilitated Brazil’s decision to entrust Azerbaijan with these missions. One of the key tasks was to assist in determining the host country for COP31. The choice was between Australia and Trkiye, with the decision being of significant importance. Trkiye was ultimately selected to host and chair COP31, while Australia will participate in the negotiation process as a consultant.

Another vital responsibility assigned to Azerbaijan was related to the Global Stocktake (GST), adopted at COP28 in Dubai. Azerbaijan, alongside Norway, was tasked with organizing dialogue events for GST implementation and contributing to a document covering its main points. The collaborative efforts of Azerbaijan and Norway led to the successful adoption of the GST document.
