SHUSHA: Azerbaijan plans to gradually establish a 250 MW storage facility for green energy by 2027, Chief Executive Officer of COP29, Elnur Soltanov, said at a panel discussion on “Solidarity for a Green World – COP29 within the framework of the II Shusha Global Media Forum, Trend reports.
‘We expect to produce 2 GW of green energy from renewable energy sources by 2027. Azerbaijan needs an energy storage capacity of 250 MW for this volume. We will create this storage in stages starting in 2024,’ Soltanov stated.
He mentioned that Azerbaijan plans to create conditions for storing the first 50 MW of green energy in 2024 with the support of foreign partners.
‘The details of creating the remaining 200 MW will be specified later, as necessary,’ Soltanov added.
To note, the availability of energy storage allows balancing energy flows in case of unforeseen changes in weather, on which the operation of renewables depends, and other force majeure circumstances.
