Baku: Azerbaijan has officially extended the duration of active military service for warrant officers and midshipmen, according to recent laws approved by President Ilham Aliyev. The Azeri-Press news agency reports that these changes are reflected in the newly approved Regulations 'On Military Service' and amendments to the country's laws 'On Military Duty and Military Service.'

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Under the current regulations, the active military service period for warrant officers and midshipmen in peacetime was set at five years. However, the recent amendment stipulates that those who have graduated from special-purpose secondary vocational education institutions, both domestic and foreign, will now serve a ten-year term. This change aims to maximize the use of their specialized skills in national defense.

The amendments also redefine eligibility criteria, clarifying that reserve warrant officers and midshipmen who have not reached the maximum age limit, along with other military personnel up to the age of 40, can be enlisted. Furthermore, the amendments adjust the reserve age limits for warrant officers and midshipmen, categorizing them into three distinct groups with respective limits of 35, 45, and 55 years.

Additionally, new provisions allow first-category reservists to be called up for military assemblies up to ten times, with each session lasting up to one month. Reservists transferred to the relevant executive authority may be called up up to five times, with each session lasting up to two months.
