Azerbaijan Faces Increasing Hybrid Attacks Amid Regional Tensions

Accra:The Milli Majlis Temporary Commission against Foreign Interference and Hybrid Threats has raised concerns about the rising hybrid attacks targeting Azerbaijan. These attacks are attributed to the country's increasing prominence as a middle power under President Ilham Aliyev, its strategic role in regional transit corridors, and its domestic stability, which have drawn external actors' attention.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the commission's statement highlights a range of provocations, including religious and ideological challenges, coordinated information operations, and cyberattacks. These actions, unprecedented in their synchronization and scale, threaten the nation's longstanding cultural and religious values.

Investigations reveal that these influence operations and cyberattacks, designed to manipulate public perception and undermine state trust, are orchestrated by agents both within and outside Azerbaijan. Hostile forces, even from neighboring friendly countries, are reportedly using digital platforms to disseminate disinformation, creating societal divisions along ethnic, religious, and political lines.

The commission notes that hybrid threat actors employ computational propaganda techniques, leveraging algorithms to create echo chambers on social media. These efforts aim to confuse public opinion and fragment society by promoting false narratives that align with existing biases.

Despite these challenges, the commission asserts that the Azerbaijani people have remained resilient, supporting state efforts to counteract divisive activities. Azerbaijani authorities, along with the commission and related committees, remain committed to repelling these attacks and ensuring national stability. The statement also extends gratitude to citizens from neighboring countries who oppose these anti-Azerbaijan activities.
