Azerbaijan Hosts International Legal Training on Hague Conventions

Baku:An international training session centered on several conventions of the Hague Conference on Private International Law took place in Baku in September. This event was attended by 50 participants, including employees from Azerbaijan's Ministry of Justice, the Justice Academy, judges, lawyers, notaries, and delegations from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the training was led by Melissa Ford, who serves as the First Secretary of the Permanent Bureau of the Hague Conference and is recognized as an experienced expert in the field. The primary aim was to address potential challenges in applying the 1970 Hague Convention on the Taking of Evidence Abroad in Civil or Commercial Matters, ensuring a proper understanding and application of its provisions, and enhancing legal professionals' knowledge.

Azerbaijan is currently proceeding with domestic procedures related to its accession to this Convention. Concurrently, the training included working meetings between the Ministry's structural unit representatives and the organization's representative, which focused on future cooperation, accession to new conventions, digitalization of justice services, including the implementation of e-Apostille, and other related topics.

To establish a treaty framework with numerous countries, including most European nations, Azerbaijan has already acceded to the 1965 Hague Convention on the Service Abroad of Judicial and Extrajudicial Documents in Civil or Commercial Matters and the 2007 Hague Convention on the International Recovery of Child Support and Other Forms of Family Maintenance, both adopted within the Hague Conference framework.
