Azerbaijan Imposes New Fees on Mobile Phone Imports

Baku: Azerbaijan will introduce a state fee of 100 manats for the registration of more than one mobile phone imported into the country by individuals for personal use. Mobile phones will also be subject to an excise tax, as per the latest legislative discussions.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, this development is part of proposed amendments to the Tax Code and the Law ‘On State Fees,’ which were deliberated at a recent meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Economic Policy, Industry and Entrepreneurship. The proposed amendment to the Tax Code stipulates an excise tax of 20 manats for each mobile device imported, with an exemption for one device per individual per calendar year.

The amendment to the Law ‘On State Fees’ mandates that individuals pay a state fee of 100 manats for registering more than one mobile device imported within a calendar year, irrespective of the device’s market value. The relevant executive authority will approve the state fee amount for mobile device registration annually.
