Baku: Azerbaijan has officially introduced the concept of a 'foreign film' into its legislation, as reported by APA. This development follows the approval of amendments to the Law on Cinematography by President Ilham Aliyev. The newly defined term specifies that a 'foreign film' is one that is produced entirely by a foreign producer or producers.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the amendments also clarify the status of co-production films. These are described as films jointly produced by local and foreign producers, which do not qualify as national films under Azerbaijani law. However, films co-produced with foreign cinematography companies can be recognized as national films if they meet specific conditions outlined in international agreements ratified by Azerbaijan and adhere to the national film requirements.

This legislative update aims to provide clearer distinctions in the categorization of films, which is expected to influence the dynamics of film production involving Azerbaijani and foreign entities.
