Azerbaijan Introduces Prison Terms for Non-Consensual AI-Generated Pornographic Content

Baku: Azerbaijan is taking a significant step towards combating non-consensual AI-generated pornographic content by proposing prison terms for offenders. Individuals found guilty of illegally producing or distributing such content using artificial intelligence technologies or special software will face imprisonment, as reported by APA.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, this initiative is encapsulated in the proposed new Article 242-1 of the Criminal Code. The article was brought to attention during a joint videoconference meeting of the Milli Majlis Committees on Legal Policy and State Building and on Human Rights. The draft legislation specifies that producing pornographic or sexual photo, video, or audio materials using AI technologies or special software without a person's consent, and distributing these materials in the media or on internet platforms where they are publicly accessible, could result in imprisonment for a term ranging from three to seven years.

This legislative proposal reflects Azerbaijan's proactive approach to addressing the challenges posed by advanced technologies in the realm of personal privacy and consent. The move underscores the country's commitment to safeguarding individuals against the misuse of AI for creating and distributing non-consensual explicit content.
