Norfolk: Azerbaijan has been officially accepted as a member of the Maritime Security Centre of Excellence (MARSEC COE), marking its first accession to the organization. The development was formalized at an event held at NATO Allied Command Transformation, attended by representatives from Azerbaijan, Portugal, Romania, Turkey, and Greece.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the event featured the signing of a technical agreement, which outlined Azerbaijan’s commitments and involvement in the MARSEC COE. The main focus of MARSEC COE is to facilitate the participation of member countries in maintaining maritime security and to motivate other nations to meet their obligations in this domain.

The agreement stipulates that an officer from the Azerbaijan Naval Forces will represent the country at the MARSEC COE for a term of three years. Additionally, as per the regulatory document, the Azerbaijani flag will be displayed at the NATO MARSEC COE, signifying continuous representation and participation from Azerbaijan at the center.
