BAKU — Azerbaijan is set to unveil a groundbreaking initiative aimed at supporting farmers in the face of climate change during the upcoming COP29 conference, announced Nigar Arpadarai, United Nations Climate Change High Level Champion for COP29.

According to Trend News Agency, the announcement was made during the Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW 2024), a precursor event to COP29 held in Baku. The initiative, named the Baku Climate Initiative Harmonia, is designed to integrate various projects that bolster the resilience of farmers, rural villages, and communities against environmental challenges. Arpadarai emphasized that the initiative would not only consolidate support mechanisms but also guide these communities in accessing necessary funding and other forms of assistance.

BCAW 2024 marks the first occasion the city hosts such an event, running from September 30 through October 4, 2024. The week-long conference serves as a platform for aligning global and local stakeholders on the pressing climate agenda, setting the stage for the forthcoming COP29 in November. Participants include a diverse mix from politics, finance, science, arts, and more, focusing on critical areas like energy transition, water security, food and agriculture, and green skills development. The event is structured to first address climate solutions involving government, academia, and the private sector, followed by contributions from the realms of science, education, and the arts.
