Airca: Azerbaijan plays locomotive role in digitalisation of Middle Corridor: Road transportation plays a major role in the Middle Corridor and, in general, in the entire freight transportation system, Secretary General of the Azerbaijan International Road Carriers Association (ABADA) Kenan Gurbanov said during the Black Sea and Caspian Freight Forum 2026, APA-Economics reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Gurbanov emphasized the integral role of road transportation within multimodal transport systems, highlighting its symbiotic relationship with rail transportation. As rail networks expand, the road transport sector experiences concurrent growth, demonstrating the sectors' interdependence rather than competition.

Gurbanov noted the rapid adaptability of road transport to geopolitical shifts, which has been crucial as transportation through the Middle Corridor has increased. This adaptability is largely attributed to the sector's inherent flexibility.

He further elaborated on Azerbaijan's pivotal role in the digitalisation of the Middle Corridor. Gurbanov proudly stated that Azerbaijan has been the primary force driving digital transformation within the corridor, establishing itself as a leader.

Azerbaijan has successfully implemented electronic permit exchanges with Turkey, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan, with ongoing efforts to extend this digital transition to other nations. The recent implementation of e-TIR represents a significant milestone, facilitating quicker border processing and enhancing transportation efficiency.

Gurbanov underscored the importance of expanding electronic documentation, asserting that it could markedly decrease border wait times and expedite corridor transport activities. He likened the Middle Corridor to a chain, stressing that the digital readiness of Azerbaijan should serve as an impetus for other countries to embrace digitalisation.
