Azerbaijan Parliament Expands Leadership with Additional Deputy Chairperson

BAKU — Following recent electoral developments, Azerbaijan’s Parliament has introduced a new position of deputy chairperson, increasing the total number from three to four, according to a report by Trend News Agency.

According to Trend News Agency, the decision to increase the number of deputy chairpersons was made after the snap parliamentary election on September 1. This election saw significant participation with 112,749 local observers and 598 international observers from 51 organizations across 69 countries. The election, which featured 990 candidates, 305 of whom were representatives of 25 different political parties, has been validated by the Constitutional Court as of September 21.

The addition of a new deputy chairperson role is seen as a move to better manage the increased diversity and volume of parliamentary duties following the expansion in the number of political parties and candidates involved in the legislative process. This expansion in leadership aims to enhance the operational efficiency of the Parliament in handling legislative duties and representing a broader spectrum of political views.
