Baku: An additional 25 stops and stations on railways in the areas surrounding Baku will be put into operation by 2030, Anar Rzayev, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency (AYNA), announced at a roundtable addressing the '2025-2030 State Program for improving transport infrastructure in Baku and its surrounding areas' for the past year.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Rzayev emphasized that the railway transport infrastructure in Baku's suburbs is undergoing significant improvements as part of the state program. Key projects include the restoration of the Yeni Surakhani-Hovsan railway line between 2026 and 2027, the Bakikhanov-Bina-Gala line from 2026 to 2028, and the Zabrat-Mashtaga-Baglar line from 2028 to 2030. These projects involve both the restoration of existing stations and the construction of new ones along these routes.
In 2025, an analysis of the track infrastructure on the specified railway lines was conducted, initiating design work, some of which has already been completed. Optimization efforts for stations and stops were also undertaken, with their locations now determined.
The planned developments include 7 stations on the Zabrat-Mashtaga-Baglar line, with Mashtaga and Baglar among them; another 7 stations on the Bakikhanov-Bina-Gala line, including Bina and Gala; and 4 stations on the Yeni Surakhani-Hovsan line, three of which will be situated in the Hovsan area.
Rzayev added that new stops will be established at Bash Keshla and Narimanov stations, and there are plans to create stops at Kurdakhani, Fatmayi, Saray, and Binagadi. Additionally, the construction of the Darnagul stop is currently in progress.
